Harry Potter fans will be pleased to hear author J.K. Rowling has released the title of the seventh and final book in her series Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. A definite publication date has not been announced but several websites suggest it may be out in July of 2007.

Tax forms available at the library include the basic state and federal forms and we can also print specialized forms from the IRS website http://www.irs.gov/ or CD-ROM. If tax time has you thinking about finances check out some of the library’s financial planning books like The Laws of Money, The Lessons of Life or The Road to Wealth by Suze Orman, Get a Financial Life by Beth Koblinger, Feathering Your Nest: The Retirement Planner by Lisa Berger, and Your Money or Your Life by Joe Dominguez.

New DVDs at the library are After the Sunset, Blade Trinity, Clean, Doogal, Kicking & Screaming, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Legend of Zorro, Million Dollar Baby, Mona Lisa Smile, Rent, Rumor Has It, She’s the Man, Something’s Gotta Give, Spanglish, Starsky & Hutch, Underworld, The Upside of Anger and What a Girl Wants.

Thanks to the Melvin-Sibley Class of 1964 for their donation to the library in memory of Lucille Swearingen. Mrs. Swearingen served many years as a member of the Melvin Public Library Board of Trustees.

The library book club The Pageturners met Monday evening, January 8, to discuss Mount Vernon Love Story by Mary Higgins Clark. This historical fiction novel was Clark’s first book originally published in 1969 under the title Aspire to the Heavens.

The group will next meet on Thursday, February 1 at 7:00 p.m. at the Melvin Methodist Church where they will give the program for the Melvin Women’s Club. They will review and discuss the book She Got Up Off the Couch by Haven Kimmel, the sequel to Kimmel’s book A Girl Named Zippy. Copies of both books are available at the library.

The Pageturners regularly meet on the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the library and newcomers are always welcome!

It’s that time again, tax forms are in! If you are preparing to file your income tax the library has all the basic forms you need plus many specialized forms that can be photocopied. Available are IL-1040 and federal 1040, 1040A and 1040EZ; as well as all basic schedules and instructions. The library also has a public access computer and the Internet if you wish to file online. If you file from home and have questions regarding the filing process check the IRS website http://www.irs.gov/. Forms, instructions and publications may be printed or downloaded from this site. Still need help? Phone the IRS toll free 1-800-829-3676 to order forms or 1-800-829-1040 for tax advice.

New books on order and arriving in the library soon include Stalemate by Iris Johansen, Shadow Dance by Julie Garwood, Hundred-Dollar Baby by Robert B. Parker, Hamiltons by Catherine Cookson and Plum Lovin’: A Stephanie Plum Novel by Janet Evanovich.

The library is giving away free gloves to all area youngsters through age 16. The gloves are located on our Mitten Tree and children can choose their own pair. Thanks to Big R of Gibson City and to Patricia Donovan of Melvin for donating gloves for the tree. If you would like to contribute gloves drop them by the library anytime, we will be giving them away throughout the winter!

Here’s hoping the children enjoyed their holiday vacation. Some new children’s books at the library are Dinosaur World, The Real Mother Goose, Journals from the Past, The Instant Guide to Cats, How to Be Popular, Good as Gold, Bob the Builder: A Day at the Farm, Castles, Insects, Trees and How to Eat Fried Worms.

Just a reminder that the library may close early or remain closed during severe winter weather. It’s always a good idea to phone first, 388-2421, if the weather is poor. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and of course there are no late fees should this occur!
