Pageturner Holiday Party
The Pageturners will hold their holiday
party next Monday,
December 12, at 6:30 p.m. at Community Hall on Main Street to enjoy the movie
“I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” Please bring your own drink and a snack to share with

The group will read “We Never Asked for Wings” by
Vanessa Diffenbaugh for the January 9, 2017 meeting and books are
arriving at the library for anyone who wants to start reading!

Happy Halloween!
Trick or Treat hours are 5 to 7 p.m. this evening and don't forget to stop by the library for a treat! Afterwards, at 7:05 p.m., be sure to attend the Halloween party at the hall on Main Street sponsored by the Melvin Women's Club where there will be a costume parade plus prizes and treats for all!

Pageturners Celebrate 18 Years!
A large group of readers first met at Melvin Library in October 1998 to see if there was enough interest in the area to form a book club, and there was. On Monday evening, October 10, 2016, the Pageturners Book Club celebrated 18 years in existence!
Cake and punch were enjoyed as the group remembered highlights of the first 18 years including their first meetings, holiday celebrations and several road trips. Members have come and gone over the years but this core group is a dedicated bunch and we are proud they are associated with our library!

Summer Reading
Congratulations to Tucker Pabian for reading the most books in the library's Summer Reading Challenge which ended August 31. Tucker read 114 books! That's 14 more than he read last summer. Tucker truly is a super reader!

Ford County Fair
It's Fair week in Melvin as the Ford County Fair runs June 19-25 on the east side of town. Tonight's entertainment is a rodeo with a talent show, musical acts, tractor pull and demolition derby scheduled for later in the week.
July Pageturners
In the Unlikely Event by Judy Blume is the selection for the next Pageturners Book Club meeting to be held at 7:00 p.m. at the library on Monday, July 11. This historical novel set in the idealistic time period of the 1950s mixes a fictional family saga with true events.

National Library Week
We are celebrating National Library Week, April 10-16, 2016 with a free book give-away. Any member of the public can stop by the library and choose 4 free items from the book sale each day during the week.

Esther Ficken Memorial Donation
The library wishes to thank Judy Engelstad, Janet Ficken and Linda Ashley and their families for the generous donation in memory of their mother Esther Ficken.
Esther was one of the founding members of the library in 1934, one of the founding members of the popular Pageturners Book Club in 1998 and also served as a library trustee for many years. She was a great Friend of the Library and she is missed!
